Missouri Star Quilt Company had their 2nd The Next Iron Quilter challenge and I had fun trying a pattern I've had for awhile.
I used Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles Times Two book for a small quilt called "Little Red". There were lots of challenges for something I thought would be a pretty simple quilt . . . mostly making sure seams matched up perfectly.
The challenge was to use at least one charm square pack of "Lovely" by Debbie Beaves for RJR Fabrics. I really liked the black with purple but I decided this was going to my mom for Christmas so the borders used her favorite color, yellow.
I had also found a great tutorial
on making a 3D flower to add to my quilt by the Nifty Stitcher. It was a lot of fun to make and I think added just that extra to make my quilt a little more special. I found a beautiful bone button for the center at a local bead shop.
I ended up using four charm square packages. There were a lot of tiny pinwheels and half square triangles involved. I also quilted a flower into each of the blocks as well as around each of the center pinwheels. I used a hatching for the border quilting and FMQ the leaves to the 3D flower down.
All in all, I learned so much from this and now have a present done!
