Description

Recently I've been gathering floral fabrics with a vague notion of putting together a quilt with a romantic floral theme, a field of flowers. This is what has happened in 4 days, my favourite - simple patchwork in a postage stamp design, the squares end up at 2 inches and there will be either 1024 or 1296 in the finished article depending on whether I  stop at 64x64 inches or go on to 72x72 inches. The basis for this project was an Athill Range layer cake (which contains lots of washed out and chalky pinks, blues, lilac and grey/cream) I've had for ages and that's mixed with a variety of mostly Makower Flowers and 30's Playtime but I have included lots of other floral fabrics from my stash, too many to mention.
Most of the quilts I make are commissions, gifts or for charity so this is going to be a keeper, just for a wee change. As always with my quilts I'm having a great time mixing and matching fabrics to make up my 16 patch blocks then seeing how they all come together.

Loving the soft look of this. So much fun to bring together fabrics the way you describe!

This looks so sweet and pretty and soft...love the fabrics and that you are making one jus to keep!

Love this- and most definitely a keeper- I know I couldn't give this one away. I love the touches of darker reds in the blocks-looks great.

Mymble True Readerowl Thanks ladies for the lovely comments and Mymble, I put some dark pink, purple and red in there deliberately as they pop and prevent the quilt from being too bland. blush

Wow! 1296 squares...it's not the piecing that intimidates me, it's the ironing!! I think that's my least favorite part of quilting. This is beautiful.

Carolmarie TiffanyRay Thank you. I struggle to iron clothes but somehow for quilting I don't mind.
