This is a pattern from Fig Tree Quilts by Joanna Figueroa. I first saw this quilt at the Spring Quilt Market in Portland 2013. There were 2 versions at the show. The first was a quilt pieced by Sherri McConnell of "A Quilting Life" blog fame and was quilted by Joanna's top notch quilter Dianna Johnson. The second version at the show was in the Moda booth. That Moda version had the adorable writing
" Life is just a bowl full of cherries"in red thread and had beautiful detail with cherries. The quilting gave the quilt the appearance of rework embroidery.
Because my top notch quilter Margie Kraft of Mustard Seed Quilting was with me at the show, I showed her the quilt and asked her if she would quilt my quilt like the Moda version. Margie said she would and I was off to the cutting board as soon as we got the fabrics. Note too that I said Margie "would " quilt the quilt as shown. Margie can quilt anything and has won awards for her quilting at quilt show so the only issue was her desire to quilt the quilt as asked and when asked she always agrees because that is the kind of quilter and person she is.
The fabrics by the way are the reds and greens from Fig Tree's Honeysweet collection. This collection came out in the store in October and I think they are one of Fig Tree's best. Having said that, I love the new Fig Tree collect Mirabelle ;and guess what Joanna has designed a stunning quilt this time with Pears. The quilt uses the yellow greens and peachy oranges from the Mirabelle collection and I know that a Pear quilt is in my future!
This pattern Cherry Pie is quite easy to do because there are no unusual blocks or seams. Furthermore if you have ever used one of Fig Tree patterns you know that they are well written , well designed and full of helpful diagrams.
If you want a kit for the entire quilt top including binding call The Sun Valley Fabric Granary in Hailey Idaho 208-720-0527and we will send it out asap.
