Wonderful! I'm making my block this weekend :)
love these colors! and the block
Love this ...the fabrics rock!!
guess I did not know about this hive - it looks like fun blocks!!
Great fabric choices - looks wonderful. I have fabrics pulled, Maybe this weekend :)
I love your block! Great fabrics. Carol chose great colors. You, Terry and True have made wonderful blocks. Can't wait to get started this wk end.
HawkFan , this is fabulous! I love your fabric choices. I have my fabric sitting here; just need a few hours free to work on it. Wonderful, wonderful block!
This is beautiful. I love the green and how it makes this block look. doing mine on Saturday and my have to steal that idea.
Conniharns - Thanks Conni - I love the colors Carol chose too. That made it so easy to pull fabrics.
Thank you Quilterinmotion - Marsha can't wait to see what fabrics you chose. I wondered if you were going to piece it or paper-piece it since I think of you as the PP Queen
Carolmarie - I'm so glad you like it. I have become a PP fan too although I haven't done anything too complex yet.
Quilt455 - Thanks Cathie, steal away! I played with lots of options and I liked this one the best. I used a different layout with the PP one and if I decide to fix that one, I'll post pics here. That had the two purples as the "logs"
This is gorgeous-great work!... hoping to get to mine this weekend!
HawkFan , I think I may try the paper piece first, although I just finished another star for a Quilt-Along I'm doing and it went together so easily even with all those bias edges. Maybe I'll do both ways. PP Queen, I'm honored but I know several others here who do great PPing too. Thanks, dearie.
Quilterinmotion - I didn't have a problem with the piecing - I recently pieced a top that had a ton of bias edges - but on my final block, the edges weren't as clean as I would like them to be. A couple of the points are a scant quarter inch from the edge. Carol won't lose any of them but I liked the edges and points a little better on the PP one. OK, how about A PP Queen instead of The PP Queen - After seeing your PP tree ornaments, you'll always be a PP Queen in my book
Great second block...and you can see how it helps with saving points!
Carolmarie I'm so glad you like this one too. I feel much better sending this one (I'll send both) because you'll have to do less fiddling to be sure not to lose any of the points. My first one is ok but you'll have to fiddle a little with seam allowances on one side I think. And yes, I do love paper piecing. Just started a new pp project
LOVE the fact that the logs are the same color. It has a big impact! Your fabric is wonderful and your points are great! These definitely are inspiring.
Terryt1955 - I was inspired by your fabric choices and True 's. I literally had both of your project pages open while I was deciding on fabric layouts. There are so many greens and blues out there I wanted them to compliment your blocks. I also picked a couple of fabrics with a hint of yellow since your two blocks have yellow.
I'm also looking forward to this weekends products. Pressure's on now hahaha
Omg Terry.....those polka dot batiks are exactly what I have chosen in these great colors!! You are too funny!! Looking forward to tomorrow!
Conniharns Can't wait to see them!! Enjoy your warm CA weather while we burrow in to survive -60 with the wind chill (no not a typo)
HawkFan I hear you on temp and wind chill...and now we are going to have 40 and rain Monday?!! Come on this is a horrible winter and it still has months to go...
Hope your pipes survived last night!
Wowee..Hawkfan and True...you are sure having nasty weather. We are so toasty in CA but that's not good either. We have not had any rain. It's suppose to be 73 today.....WHAT in January! Hope you guys thaw out some....sending you some California sunshine. :)
HawkFan thankfully they did...did yours? I never do the keep the water running trick as we just do not get this cold...but have for last two nights. We even had frozen pipes at my office!
Conniharns Yes warm weather isn't always good either. We here in frozen country sometimes forget that. Have fun today - I'm so jealous!
True We won't hit our really cold stuff til tomorrow. We probably won't do the dripping water thing but I will turn the heat up a bit compared to what I usually set it at overnight. We got this bad in 1995 - we did the thing where you toss boiling water out and it instantly turned to snow. Pretty cool if it wasn't so freaking cold.
True You are so quiet, we hardly know you are here! I'll share my Subway sandwich with you...and if you stay past 5:00pm, you can also have stew!
HawkFan , thank you! I hope I can live up to that title! lol
Your block is lovely. Now that I have the Pillow Pop pillows done, I can head over to the stack of Carol's fabrics. I'll let you know what I end up doing!
Here is SOUTHERN Alabama, near the Gulf of Mexico, we have had temps very low all week. 29 is almost unheard of here and we had that this week! BRRRRR!
Quilterinmotion This winter's weather has been really strange everywhere. Kinda disturbing.
Looking forward to seeing your block for Carol
Oh I love your tree!!! So cute...what size block is it?
Oh your tree is wonderful...and love the little hedgehop feature :) So sweet!
Audrey....Love love love it- the little hedgehog is cuteness squared:) and the green fabrics are just great! Thank you so much!!!
Lovely greens in your tree... maybe I have to go pick my colors tonight! Cute hedgehogs!
Mymble I'm so glad you like it! You're going to have a wonderful quilt and I can't wait to see everyone's blocks
Pretty tree! Love the addition of the hedgehogs, to cute!
ArloDeanQuilts Thanks Belinda. I was looking for something extra to add and they fit the best
This block is adorable! Very nice, love the colors.
Just seeing this makes me want to organize my stash and get started on this block. Great selection of greens you have!
Terryt1955 - yes, it's a sickness. My stash is out of control. I swore I would only buy what I needed for a few months and that lasted a few days!
Okay, so getting ready to undertake organizing my stash I need ideas. What method do you use to keep things relatively under control? Right now mine is in "several" huge Rubbermaid bins that I can't even move because of the weight. I just heard at my Open Sew night about "Tiny Houses". So tempted to get one for the backyard and either set up a sewing room there or banish one of the kids to it!
Terryt1955 I have smaller clear bins that I organize by color if the fabric is a print. That makes it easier when I'm pulling fabric for something like this. My solids are in another bigger bin and my "textured" solids are in another one. I have a separate bin for my whites (snow, white, etc). I have some canvas "drawers" from IKEA that I use for fabrics that I've put together and am planning to use in a quilt. Then I've just got a couple of boxes I use to try to organize smaller pieces (maybe too big to call a "scrap) by color. Since I do a lot of fussy cutting, I have the novelty fabrics in a separate drawer.
HawkFan your commitment lasted about 48-72 hours longer than mine did;-). As fabric Friday was here when I arrived home to two packages;-)
Carolmarie oh some of us have done things like that...I have some lovely crystal, I never use, that was my grandmother's. It use to live in my dining room closet. It is now carefully packed away in my attics and fabric and other quilting things live nips my closet. I also found a new location for my grandmother's china! I need to organize my scraps better ...by color so thanks Audrey for ideas.
Nips mean in no clue how did that typo!
True There's just too much gorgeous fabric out there! It didn't help that this last round of my robin has a top that uses colors I have absolutely none of. That forced me to go to some LQSs and of course I picked up other stuff.
Carolmarie I think the small bins you use are the same ones I use. I got several at Target on sale and they do stack very nicely. I share my sewing room with DHs office. He joked that I was taking over the man cave. I have a giant reproduction of the Sports Illustrated cover of the Dream Team basketball team hanging over my cutting table. He offered to move it but I don't mind.
This is a great tree and I love all the beautiful green fabric, but I have to say it...my favorite part is the little hedgehog. I love this block!!!
your greens are great. Now I just hope that northern California has some green trees come spring. A little worried with no rain this winter.
Quilt455 so agree. The weather has been awful everywhere. In some ways we've got it better than you do. Our cold weather won't have the longer term effects your lack of rain will have
Great April blocks...I loved making this one!
Carolmarie I don't always do two but the colors are so different and I wasn't totally thrilled with thecolor of the orange corners on the first block
Carolmarie I did two as I really enjoyed making the block but also wanted to see if could make those petals line up! And also just loved playing with these colors:-)
Love both of your blocks! The orange one is a more muted soft one that plays beautifully against the blue. Nice contrast between the 2 and both will be beautiful additions to Wendy's quilt.
Good Morning East Coasters and Mid Westerners!
Carolmarie Should have added nesting seams is all about practice...and still sometimes I nail it and sometimes it is just a dream I swear;-)
audrey - I LOVE them both!!! You're right that there is color variation - but I think that is going to make this quilt more interesting. You used gorgeous fabrics!!! Thank you SO much!
Carolmarie It's still too early to tell because the morning fog hasn't burned off but it feels like it's going to be a beautiful spring day. How I love Saturday mornings!
Thank you Terryt1955 - the funny thing is before I made the blocks, I thought both would be bright but when I started playing with combinations, these were the best combos I came up with. Kind of surprised myself
Caribousmom - Wendy I'm glad you like them - the pictures aren't very good. They'll go out on Monday (I'll post confirmation that they went out on the thread once they've definitely been mailed)
Love your blocks, HawkFan . Wendy's going to have an incredible quilt with these colors.
Awesome May block!!! Love it...
True Thanks Mary! And it only took about a dozen tries to get it posted here - TB is definitely acting up!
HawkFan I know!!! Really frustrating I just sent a pm to Alex, Rebecca and Amanda hope they do something soon!
Fabulous color and fabric choices for Karen's block, Audrey!!!
Gorgeous color combos in the x&+, really pretty fabrics together.
Love your block - super colors ...and yes, weirdness here on TB today..posting has been a bear:(
I came back from a half day of errands, and two new May blocks had appeared -- and it isn't even May yet! Love this one so much. Ditto the awesome, fabulous, gorgeous, and super comments above. this is a fantastic group.
Mymble Thanks Margaret. I see the problem is now fixed but I was afraid I was going to have multiple posts or not get it posted at all.
Readerowl Karen I'm glad you like it. I wanted to stay away from blue and go a different route but I just kept coming back to it.
Glad you came back to the blues because it really is pretty!
I got on here early this morning and could see TB was acting weird. Thought I just didn't have enough caffine. Glad True sent a pm to Alex since I had to fly out the door!
Love the May block. The colors are awesome.
Terryt1955 Thanks Terry. I was trying to do something different but my stash wasn't cooperating - imagine that - my extensive stash failing me. Guess I'll have to shop some more
Ooooh, love that lavender...fantastic!
Oh! pretty! Love the take 2 block also. Luscious purples and lavender, and love the dotty background too.
Oh the purple and yellow is awesome!!!
Well you KNOW I love the purple version!!
Love the purple and yellow together. And dots make everything more fun. I really like this one.
Very pretty block, love your purples. I really need to add more purple to my stash.
ArloDeanQuilts Thanks Belinda. Most of my purples are from the quilt I made my goddaughter. I like purple but I'm not sure I'd have much of it in my stash otherwise
Oh I love your June blocks. That red is amazing and the grays and others for Paula's!! You did good both shopping and sewing;-)
True Thanks Mary. Scrappy is always hard for me so putting together Paula's block took some time as I auditioned fabric and fabric positions for a long time. Two of the triangles look almost black but that's a lighting flaw
Love your June blocks, Audrey! Perfect color placement on Paula's and the churn dashes are great too!
Caribousmom Thanks Wendy - I hope Paula likes her block. It was fun to push myself with a scrappy block.
Love the July block, Audrey! You're on a roll!
Wow you are back in the saddle for sure...love July's block...that is awesome fabric in middle.
True Thanks Mary. I actually started with the middle fabric and then picked others to go with it
Terryt1955 my mind didn't immediately go there either. I was just digging through scraps trying to get an idea and I saw the black fabric I used for the first block. Then it dawned on me that would be the easiest way for me to come up with the 4 outside colors. Thanks Terry - hope Marsha likes the batik!
Love both of the blocks, especially the one with the circled background, looks kinda like snails!
love both of your blocks, really great fabric choices for both.
Love your second block, thank you for being an angel!;-)
Awesome second block, Audrey!!
HawkFan , I do love the second block. Thank you for being an angel for Margaret. I know she appreciates that and I love your choices. Using a multi-colored center to pick the rest of the colors from does make a great deal of sense. I never though of that but it's perfect. You are a great help to those who haven't started yet.
Thanks so much Audrey it is gorgeous-the center is especially great! I'm so glad Marsha loves it too!
Mymble I'm glad you like it. I was trying to channel you but it doesn't have your creativity. I'm glad Marsha likes it though.
HawkFan , you have nothing to worry about. You are creative and have a great color sense. I do love both the blocks you made and that ecru batik is so nice! I'll have to look for some of that as I do like it very much. Thanks again for being such an angel.
Quilterinmotion my pleasure. My state was having an all state shop hop and I had fun visiting about half of the shops. I picked up both of the background fabrics I used at one of the shops. It's a fairly local shop and they have an amazing selection of batiks
HawkFan , how lucky for you. I visited two quilt shops this past week which is really a lot for me. Of course I had to go out of state to get to one of them! I will be looking for the ecru batik as it is a nice "low volume" fabric to have on hand. Glad you enjoyed the all state shop hop.
Are your local shops participating in the RowbyRowExperience that starts July 1? One of the shops about 40 min. from me is participating as well as others further off. It looks like it might be fun to collect the row patterns.
Quilterinmotion no they've all got their own smaller shop hops with patterns they'll do this next month. There were 94 shops on the hop and they're spread out all over the state. I heard that 3 sisters who did the whole thing estimated the drove about 4000 miles! The husband of one shop owner said he did a calculation that if you took the shortest route it was about 1500 miles. I use it as an excuse to explore parts of the state that I've never been to or little towns I haven't visited but I only go to places I can get to and back in a day.
HawkFan Nonsense Audrey- its marvelous...love everything about it and Marsha is going to have an amazing set of blocks!...looking forward to seeing the finished quilt!
I love the background fabric. Just a great block.
Love your fabrics. So colorful! You did a great job.
Thanks Carolmarie - yesterday was not a good sewing day for me but eventually all of my Monday projects came out OK
I love the fabric! And you win the contest for the most creative interpretation of the block;-)
Wonderful red fabric for August. Lol I have a photo of mine when it had antlers.. They are very popular, but I fixed it.
Carolmarie Sure, Carol if "designing" means randomly rearranging the components of a block hahaha
Readerowl Karen maybe we should all get together and design a new quilt for Terry made of goofy blocks
HawkFan Love your block! But I so had to laugh because I put mine on upside down and had to fix!! It seems the easier the block I am more liable to goof up!! I do better with more difficult, head scratching blocks!! Never have to rip those!
Love your August block, Audrey!!! I flipped mine too and had to rip! Sounds like we all have done that...WTH!?!? LOL.
HawkFan oh Hawk!!! Love love my block! These brights are so pretty. It's perfect!! Thank you so much.
Great block for Conni!!
Stunning September block, Audrey!!! Love it!
Carolmarie Thanks Carol. She is getting some beautiful blocks. Yes, Mary and I met up. No pictures though. We were so busy talking we never took any.
I'm glad you made the rock mountain puzzle in green - I've been on the lookout in my stash for a good green for a second block. Your swirly one is perfect!
and the blue is wonderful too - love the narrow frame on that one.
Thank you again!!! Both blocks are fantastic!!! Love the swirly fabrics and the polka dots. Thank you so much, they are lovely!!!
Readerowl Thanks Karen! I love the swirly fabric and have it in several colors. Trying to emphasize the northern lights theme.
Perfect blocks...the numbers are excellent and the swirls just so northern lights like...wow!!!!
Love your October blocks- lots of movement going on there and the colors are great!
Mymble Thanks Margaret - it was nice to see your block and everyone else's to take inspiration from them
Beautiful blocks as always Audrey!
Gorgeous, Audrey Good color choices :)
Really gorgeous fabric choices for the November block!!
True Thanks Mary - this one was easy to pick fabrics for which kind of surprised me. Muted colors aren't my personality but I had quite a bit, surprisingly enough LOL
Gorgeous block!!! love those fabrics!!
Well for not gravitating towards muted colors you sure do have some great ones in your stash. And that green is spot on for the olive Cathie was requesting. Great job!
Terryt1955 Thanks Terry. It was so helpful to have the Kona color list Cathie gave us. I could compare fabrics to the ones she listed and I felt I was on the right track.
Gorgeous color choices for the November block! Nice job!
More Cheery blocks for Dec., Just love everyone's blocks!
Thank you these are so perfect for my quilt...love them!
You already know from IG, but LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
ArloDeanQuilts OMG my daughter has the same little fox as her screen saver...I know totally off subject, but so crazy.
Mmmm Good! Love your stash and low volumes in grays! True , you surely picked a great block!
Terryt1955 Thanks Terry. I went on a gray buying spree last summer and was happy for the chance to use some of it
