Description

This has been in my head and I dreamt about it last night so decided had to give it a go!  I had some left over leaves from my border for Carolmarie (I made different options to see what I liked), and I so love the tiny dresden and the colors of her quilt so used some from my stash for this mini.  One of my favorite words is "joy" so included it.  I saw this mini on Pinterest awhile ago and believe it is what inspired my thinking.  I pieced together a bunch of scraps from my white on white stash to make the background.  It ended up being good applique practice for when I do my Leaping St. Nick!  We are having a Yankee Swap at work on Monday and if I get it done think this will be my contribution.

I love it! Perfect way to use a mini dresden and I love the center of the flower!! Fun scrappy background too

ArloDeanQuilts

This is so cute. I love the scrappy background and dresden!

True

ArloDeanQuilts HawkFan thank you...now need to get border on it!

True

Carolmarie it is about 4 1/2" across...same size as the ones in the corners of you border. Thanks

Terryt1955

SO dang cute! What is a Yankee Swap BTW? I also love the little green fringe you have going around the center! Wondering how you did the "joy". If you tell me you did it without a template I'm going to scream. LOL.

True

Terryt1955 no screaming needed;-). I found a font generator online and found one I liked and used the largest it could be (144). Printed it off and traced it backwards onto my fusible interfacing, ironed onto fabric and cut it out! And then did a small zig zag to sew it on. The green fringe came out of an error but I love it! For some reason the circle was too small, even though I used same everything as I did for Carol's...but it is a pain to make. So was trying to think of a way to avoid remaking and the fringe was born. Yankee swap...let me see if I can find a link to explain as it would be easier.

Terryt1955 here you go they are a lot of fun...some people bring funny stuff, some regift and so what shows up is all over the place. http://www.secretsanta.com/action/page?pageId=118

HawkFan

A Yankee swap is similar to what we call a White Elephant party

True

HawkFan yes that is what is was called when I did not live in Maine;-)

Terryt1955

Ahhh, HawkFan and True , I do know what a White Elephant is. But I must say I really like the idea of doing it after Christmas when you "might"want to unload some questionable gifts AND have fun at the same time!

ArloDeanQuilts

Love the scrappy border!

True

ArloDeanQuilts thank you! I do too:-)

Skynme

what a great little scrap buster project. Love it!

True

Skynme thank you...need to get up and finish that binding!

Sdd1997

That is so pretty! I love the spring time feel especially when it is snowing outside!

slmcewin

So pretty!

True

slmcewin Sdd1997 thank you both just finished it and about to post new pictures. It does help one feel brighter in the cold and snow!

Mymble

Love your finish for this- really great- this will be such a hit at the Yankee Swap!- do you do "steals" with yours- because if so I have a feeling this would get stolen a lot! We keep our steals to 2:)

True

Mymble thank you and yes we do steals with no limits. There are some men in group so they may pass unless they think their significant other would like it...

Mymble

True You will have to update and let us know all the details!- wow steals with no limits- I surely would have lost the purse I "stole" at our Christmas swap;)))))

Caribousmom

Awwww, now did I miss this sweet little mini? I love it, Mary. I envy your applique ability - that is one of the things I want to learn in 2014 and you are a great inspiration for me!

True

Mymble for the first time ever I got #1 at one before Christmas and I stole cool hand painted wine glasses and gave them to my sister and bil, which is why I stole them;-). Will let you know how it goes.

True

Caribousmom thank you...I love doing appliqué in small quantities and as a change of pace. Do love what you can create! You will like it and rock at it with you eye and talent:-)

HawkFan

Beautiful finish. Love the backing fabric and just everything about this mini!

True

HawkFan thank you I am really pleased with it...kind of want it for me but since I would then have left than 24 hours to come up with another idea;-)

HawkFan

I would definitely have a hard time parting with it. Too bad you don't have any orphan blocks lying around you could use ;D

True

HawkFan LOL

True

I could give my pillow!

Periblue2

I love it! Sew fresh and happy.

True
