Description

1/04/14
Here is my block for Carol for January. I love this block but struggled with it a bit. The good news I was having a sewing day with Conni and Wendy so I had lots of help...thank you my friends. And Mary was going to join us for lunch and dinner but we are still waiting for her...Maine must be further then we thought! Carol, I think you quilt is going to be beautiful. Hope you like it this block.

02/23/14
Here is my Feb block for Margaret. What a fun block to make. I decided to make a plum tree and used Plum Sweet by blackbird Designs. Thought it would be fun to use the dots so it would look like plum on the ground too. This was a super fun block to make and love the idea that Margaret has come up with to finish the whole thing. This is a block I will make again in the future. Margaret I hope this is what you had in mind and you like it.

03/08/14
Here is my March block for Hawkfan. I decided to do it in purple because I was able to find the most batiks in this color. Actually make 2 blocks because the first one came out 1/4 inch to small. I had my machine set on the wrong setting. Thank you Miss Wendy, you were right on with the setting you told me. So Audrey you will be getting both blocks from me; feel free to only use the one. This is my second star that is wonky and I struggle with it just a bit but this block was fun.

4/30/14
Talk about just being under the wire. Hey is my block for Wendy. Yes, I had some struggles with this one. The 1st one is not great but I still love it. Attempted to do better with the 2nd one. I love the colors Wendy picked and love this block. I don't think it is a difficult block, I think it was me. May have to do this block for my month....hmmmm  Sorry the pictures are not great, took them with my cell phone.

05/20/14
Here is my May block for Karen. I love this block and might have to "steal" it for my month. The most important thing I learned while doing this block is if you decide to use a different tutorial than what is provided, but very careful about the size. Block 1 is the real block since it is the correct measurements. Block #2 is 12" unfinished because I didn't bother to check the size on the tutorial I decided to use.  This is also the first block with directions for cool and warm colors that I have made so it was fun. Karen, I hope it is scrappy enough for you. I will get in the mail by Friday.

06/03/14
A miracle has happened. I actually got one of my blocks done for June before the end of the month. This one is for Belinda. I loved making this block. I thought that Conni's fish might be a little lonely so I wanted them to have company. Plus I think all boys like fish or to fish. Belinda, I hope this is what you are looking for. I will get it mailed out this week. On to Paula's block.

06/20/14
Another miracle, I got Paula's block done last week and mailed it on Monday and she already got it. I was really worried when I saw her block being all flying geese but it really wasn't that difficult. I did have to use my seam un-doer a couple of times, but that is usual for me. Paula, I can not wait to see your quilt all put together. I know it will be great.

July 16th

Here is my block for Marsha for July. At first I thought I was going to have a hard time with it but it wasn't bad and I think it was because of my new bloc loc. I have never been good at squaring things up so this was a big help. Marsha, I think this quilt is going to be beautiful and happy with all its bright colors. Can't wait to see all the blocks together. I hope you like my addition.

Aug 16th

Here is my block for Terry for the month of August. I love this block and found it really easy to do. Will be in the mail tomorrow. Hope you like it Miss Terry.

Sept 11

Here is my Sept block for Conni. I loved this block. When I first looked I it I was a little worried but it really was simple. Only had to unsew one seam; which in itself is great for me. I really had to work at making it scrappy but that is good for me. Miss Conni, this quilt is so you, can not wait to see all your blocks together and how you decide to do that. You need to quilt it too.

10/15/14

My block for Erica (skynme) is completed. What a fun block to make. Looks very complicated but was very simple. I hope you like it Erica and it is what you are looking for. Can't wait to see your bear and it all put together. 12/27 Finally have my blocks for Mary completed and will be mailing in the morning. Sorry Mary that it is so late in the month. I LOVE this block. Came together so easy and it is just so cute. I hope the colors are right. This quilt is going to be wonderful. I can not wait to see it done. Going to make me smile. And I love Mary's idea for the blossom. Sorry about the terrible picture...forgot my camera at mother in laws so had to take it with my tablet. Also did not square up the blocks because I am terrible at it. Hope you do not mind Mary.

Terryt1955

Another beautiful block for Carol! Great choice of fabric Cathy!! Sorry you had a struggle with it but glad you had a fun sewing day with the gang.

True , had I known you were going to be there I would have cancelled washing my hair and come and joined you all!

True

Terryt1955 ROFLMAO

Readerowl

Carol's blocks are popping up so fast, I can't keep track. This one is beautiful too.

Mymble

Great block- love the fabrics you used!

Quilt455

True I got so confused yesterday and you were so quiet, forgot you joined us. Gee, wish you did have to go home so soon. Thanks

Quilt455

HawkFan Thank you.

Quilt455

Carolmarie You are welcome. So glad you like it. Can't wait to see them all together!

Quilt455

Conniharns Thank you. I was so fun doing the blocks together yesterday. I think our sewing days is what keeps my sane the rest of the time. But please remember your very large tote bag and Tupperware next time.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 thank you. Can you imagine the five of us in the same room. Not sure how much sewing would get done at all! Wendy said you might be coming up, can't wait to see you!!!

Quilt455

Readerowl Thank you. My goal is to get all my blocks done early in the month so there is no stressing.

Quilt455

Mymble thank you. I actually learned a lot doing this block.

True

Conniharns Quilt455 see I am everywhere;-). It was a short, quiet trip but so worth it...damn that Terry had to wash her hair! Next time;-)

Terryt1955

Quilt455 Yep I'm coming up in March with clean hair. And if there was a way I could put True in my pocket I would!

Carolmarie , I won't be mailing my block today on the off chance I'll be making a 2nd one. My "houseguests" will be decreasing by 2 on Wednesday which means time to clear away the Christmas decorations and set up all my sewing equipment!

Dtscrapper

I really like your bit of black in your block! So pretty!

Quilt455

Dtscrapper Thanks, I was worried it wouldn't work but I ended up really liking it.

True

Love your interpretation of this block!! and now Mymble can make some plum jam;-)

Quilt455

Thanks Mary. when we lived at our old house, we had 2 large plum trees and I made plum jelly every year along with peach jelly from our peach tree. Yummy

Caribousmom

LOVE your block, Cathie!!!! And love the interpretation of plums on the ground - very cool! I'm sure Margaret will love this one!

Mymble

Cathie I adore my plum tree ...it is so great...I love all the touches-beautiful fabric choices... the plums on the ground!!!!...and I do love plums...now all I need is a plum jelly recipe:)

HawkFan

What a great interpretation. Love your tree

Terryt1955

Great block Quilt455 ! Such great fabric choices for a plum tree. And you did it before Monday. Yay!

Quilt455

Caribousmom Thank you. Thanks to you I am finally starting to think outside the box. I loved making this block.

Quilt455

Carolmarie Thank you. I just love these blocks and think Margaret picked a winner. I can't wait to see the finish quilt. Knowing her, it will be outstanding.

Quilt455

Mymble I am so happy you like it. It was such a fun block to make. Took me a while to get it all together but I am glad I did the one I did. It will be in the mail at lunch time tomorrow.

Quilt455

HawkFan Thank you. So fun

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Thanks. Yes, I got it done and it will be in the mail at lunch tomorrow. Hey, you will be here soon. I am so looking forward to our sewing day/evening. I so truly need it.

ArloDeanQuilts

Love your tree, very pretty!

Terryt1955

I've been thinking abut you and am sure you need a break! See you soon. What kind of dessert do you want?

Conniharns

Cathie this block is adorable!! You and the little plums! Glad you got it done so you can start to chill a little! and Terryt....CHOCOLATE!!! Can't wait!

Quilt455

ArloDeanQuilts Thank you. Sew fun

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Well let me see.....CHOCOLATE works for me and I guess Conni too. But you can surprise us.

Quilt455

Conniharns Glad you like it my friend. Thanks. I know, got to stop stressing so much.

Terryt1955

Well of course CHOCOLATE, that goes without saying! Hmmm, now what kind of chocolate.......or rather what shall I turn it into.....

Terryt1955

Thought of you and True this morning when I saw this plum fabric on sale today at Missouri Star Quilt Company. Just sayin' ...

HawkFan

Terryt1955 I made Nutella Cheesecake trifles for my book club this week - you start with a pan of brownies...

Terryt1955

HawkFan Ok I want that recipe! It sounds right up my alley!

True

HawkFan OMG...bet that was yummy!

HawkFan

Terryt1955 and True Here's the link for it. It's so easy to make. Was a big hit with book club! http://www.mybakingaddiction.com/nutella-cheesecake-trifles/

Terryt1955

That does look good. I'll have to try it out on my co-workers. They hate me because I keep breaking their diet regimes. Hey, I'm not shoving it down their throats....

True

HawkFan thank you...I never eat Nutella, no clue why, but bought some for my mom while she was here so this would be a great use for it!!

HawkFan

True I have to say I think I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't care for Nutella but I knew this would be a hit with book club. My daughter will eat the rest of the jar when she's home for break :)

Dtscrapper

Cathie, your block is beautiful - I love all the purple! So I have a little tip when making wonky star blocks to ensure that the block comes out to the right size....the star points, when you press them, take up some extra space because of the two seams....I set my seam to be a tiny bit smaller than the scant 1/4"....this gives those seams some room and the block stays the right size!

Skynme

Love that beautiful purple. Great job on this one!

True

Wow do I love the color and fabrics! Great idea using batiks just another quilt to my list...oh my!!

HawkFan

Cathie your block is beautiful! The fabrics you used are gorgeous!! If your block turns out to be too small for the front, I'll use it on the back. I love having elements of the front design carried over on the back.

Quilterinmotion

Proliferation of purple, particularly praiseworthy! Great job, Quilt455 .

Quilt455

Dtscrapper Thanks Paula. I will try your tip next time I make one. I am still using the "tape tip" you showed us when you were here. You need to come for a visit!!!

Quilt455

Skynme Thanks. Funny purple is not one of my 'go to' colors but that might change. That is one of the best thing about this group, it is helping try new things including colors.

Quilt455

True Thanks Mary. I am sure your bucket list is just as long as mine.

Quilt455

HawkFan I am thrilled that you like it. I don't usually use baliks but thought you would like them. Will be putting both in the mail at lunch tomorrow.

Quilt455

Quilterinmotion You are too funny. Thank you. It was positively pleasant to make. hehehe

Caribousmom

Love it, Cathie :)

Quilt455

Caribousmom Thanks and I changed my settings on my machine and it works just perfect. Thank you

Skynme

Quilt455 I actually love purple but I don't have a lot of it in my stash.

Terryt1955

Well I LOVE purple and I love this block! Great job!

Quilt455

Skynme I actually went and did a little shopping because I wanted some batiks. I think it is a color that I am going to work with more often.

Quilt455

Carolmarie I am with you Carol. I see a purple quilt in my future.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Thanks Terry!!!! I thought of you while making it. Hey, see you soon!!!

Mymble

Such gorgeous purples-fantastic!

Caribousmom

TOTALLY love these, Cathie :) xo

True

I love your blocks and from here they look awesome!

HawkFan

I love the fabrics you used in Wendy's blocks!

Skynme

Very pretty fabric choices for this one. Great job!

Quilt455

Caribousmom I am so glad. I just love the colors you picked even if I don't usually care for orange,

Quilt455

True Thanks Mary, just do not look to close

Quilt455

Carolmarie Skynme HawkFan Thank you ladies., And yes Carol, Wendy does. She can see a color at the LQS and know it will match exactly a fabric she has at home that she hasn't looked at in months. Yup, jealous of that talent but hey, learned to shop with her and now she does it for me too. hehehe

Caribousmom

Quilt455 I may not be able to figure out my taxes, but I do have color memory. Go figure! LOL

True

Caribousmom LOL well clearly you have the more important skill nailed!!!

Terryt1955

It's official, I now love orange. These blocks looks great, especially the orange one! Now if Caribousmom can get me to like brown then we should be canonizing her!

Terryt1955

But don't hold your breath on that one Caribousmom . At least not in this lifetime!

Caribousmom

True Very true, Mary :)
Terryt1955 Ha! I knew I would eventually convert you to orange, Terry! Don't worry about brown, that one isn't in my wheelhouse either! LOL

Quilt455

Caribousmom yes you do. And I think if you loved your taxes like you love color, you would figure them out too.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 I know what you mean. Orange has always been my least favorite color and more and more I am liking it.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Don't worry Terry that is not one of Wendy's colors either.

Terryt1955

Quilt455 Phew! Because I can never see myself coming around to liking brown. Hmmm, sounds like the words to a song!

Quilt455

Where is Conni when we need her???

True

Great blocks for May...really pretty

Quilterinmotion

Quilt455 , your blocks are so pretty! I do love batiks and I must tell you it took me quite a while and a Round Robin where I had to use orange for others but now I do like to use orange.

Readerowl

Yummy blocks - love your fabric choices. Just the right amount of scrappiness. You have real talent for combining fabrics!

Terryt1955

Very pretty! When I first saw the batik one I thought for sure it was Conniharns . Did you raid her stash?

HawkFan

Love the colors and fabrics in your May blocks!

Quilt455

True Thank Mary. it was fun to make.

Quilt455

Quilterinmotion I have never been one that liked batiks but I notice that I am buying more and more of them. And orange is actually growing on me. Thanks

Quilt455

Readerowl Thank you so much. I am so glad that it is scrappy enough. I struggle with scrappy. The part I like most about the whole process is picking the fabric. It usually takes me the longest since I change my mind a 100 times but I sure love the experience.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Nope just because I didn't think about it. hehehe I am usually not a Batiks person but I love these and thought it would make a pretty block. Funny thing is more and more keep showing up in my shopping bag when I get home for the LQS.

Quilt455

HawkFan Thanks; I am expanding my fabric choices.

HawkFan

Love the fish block!!

True

Love this block!! More awesome fabirc.

Mymble

Love your bright church dash- the fish are so cute!

Quilt455

HawkFan thanks, didn't want Conni's fish to be lonely

Quilt455

True This was really fun to make. Thank you

Quilt455

Mymble Thanks; just quick and easy.

Skynme

Such cute fabric on this one! You can never have too many adorable little fish.

ArloDeanQuilts

Quilt455 love the fish!

Terryt1955

Go Fish! Cute!!!!

Quilt455

Skynme Thank you. Wanted to use fun fabric because it is a fun block

Quilt455

ArloDeanQuilts I am thrilled that you like it. In the mail at lunch tomorrow.

Quilt455

Terryt1955 Thanks Miss Terry; I did realize that I do not have a lot of "boy" fabric in my stash so I guess I better go shopping.

Quilt455

Carolmarie thanks Carol. I am going to make more of these blocks. Love how simple they are.

Caribousmom

Skynme

Gorgeous!!! Thank you so much!

Quilt455

True Thanks Mary. This was one of the easiest blocks I have ever made and I didn't have to use my seam ripper at all and my seams match....what more could a girl ask for.

Quilt455

Skynme I am so glad you like and hope it is what you were looking for. I can not wait to see it all put together. Will get it the mail tomorrow.

HawkFan

Love that center fabric - perfect for the theme!

True

Quilt455

Quilt455

Is anyone else having issues with updating projects? I updated this to include Mary's block three times and for some reason it is not saving it. Making me crazy

HawkFan

Great blocks for Mary. I think yours is the first purple one

Caribousmom

Love your petals, Cathie!

Quilt455

HawkFan thank you. Just wish I would have gotten done sooner.
