Description

It's January and time for the first of 12 awesome quilt blocks for 12 awesome ladies.   This one is for Carolmarie and it came together so beautifully.  It's one of Faith's Solstice Star blocks, called "Another Star".  I loved piecing this for Carol and used the requested colors - blues, purples and greens.  January 7, 2014

February - Mymble requested a Log Cabin Tree block.  I've never seen or made this block before.  We were to do it in whatever "season" we preferred.  I found the Fall fabric and decided I wouldn't look any further.  The background fabric looks like branches with reds and yellows, perfect for Fall.  February 7, 2014

March - Audrey (Hawkfan) requested a Wonky Star block with 3.5" blocks.  It was a fun block to make and I used some of the yellows from my Sugar Cube QAL as she requested brights in one colorway.  Siggie block was requested also so that's done too.    February 27, 2014 for March 1.

April - Wendy (Caribousmom) requested the Quatrefoil block for her April block.  It's a fabulous block and she sent me the white she wanted as I didn't have any.  Since there was enough white for two blocks, I made her a bonus block.  She has the right to disqualify the bonus block if she wishes.  The first block has a fussy cut flower in the center of her tangerine and aqua/teal block.  That was the serious block.   When I came across the fat quarter of luggage I scooped it up for luggage tags for my friend. Then I noticed the colors in it and decided if she could have a telephone block perhaps she could have a luggage block.   The other colors in the center "luggage" block are a bit bolder and she may choose not to use it in her quilt.  That's fine with me, Wendy, if you decide it's "too much".   I enjoyed making this block and Wendy's tutorial was fantastic.  Finished March 29th for April 1.  I will make it March 31st.

May- Karen (Readerowl) requested the Scrappy X and Plus block for her May block.  I've never made the block but it was so fun to put together.  I made a sample one first to make sure it would go together well and then I pulled out some batiks and made the "real" one.  Karen will get both to do as she wishes.  These were made in April as I'll be traveling for the first two weeks of May.  Hope you like them, Karen; if they are not the colors you want, just Yell!

June-Belinda (ArloDeanQuilts) requested the Churn Dash block.  This block is always a fun block to make.  Her request also included white fabric and any fabric that was bright and suitable for a boy.   Well, my "Little Hot Rod" fabric from Southseaimports seemed perfect for any age boy!   It reminds me of race cars and race flags.  The other is another bright color and I hope they work great in Belinda's block.

June - Paula (Dtscrapper) requested a Flying Geese block with a specific color scheme.  She sent us each a sample and I took the sample to the two local shops to match up some fabrics since I didn't have any that worked well except the grays.    Unfortunately, I couldn't find much for colors and ended up with four fabrics in various shades of the yellow Paula had.  I wanted more variety but couldn't drive too far away and since it was fabric for only one block, I didn't feel mail-order was my best bet.  I think Paula will be able to use the block since the yellows I used are shades fo her yellow but I hope she'll WANT to use it since it doesn't have great variety.

July - My month as Diva.  I had the group make the "Interrupted Star" block for my month and they are tremendous!

August - Terry (Terryt1955) requested the Donut block in reds and whites.   She sent us the dark red to work with and requested a red print to coordinate and also requested Kona white.   This was a fun block to make and I think she's going to have a fabulous red/white quilt!

September - Conni (Conniharns) requested the Scrap Jar Star block for her block.  It's a sweet block and I'm so happy to make one as I've admired this block for some time.  Conni wants every scrap to be different without using green; no problem!

October - Erica has asked for a block called Rocky Mountain block.  She requested cream, black or a fabric that reads black and colors that represent the Northern Lights.   I hope this is a block she will enjoy.

November - Cathie (quilt455) has asked for the New England Block which is a favorite of mine.  She asked for low volume/soft colors and Kona white for the background. Her request was for the crossbars to be olive green.  I did my best to come up with low volume/soft colors.  Kona White I always have in my stash.  I will send some extra HSTs that measured correctly in hopes that  Quilt 455 can use them somewhere in her quilt.

December- Actually, it's still November but Mary gave us her block request for December.  I was between larger projects so I decided to "git er done" now.   After one try with stems that were a bit too pale, I came up with two winners.  Red and blue sprouts for  True.  This was a fun block to make and happy to find enough low volumes to fit the challenge.

This is the end of the 2014 Thread Divas Monthly Block Swap.  It was such great fun to swap with each and every one of these gals.  Everyone did their best work and we all came out WINNERS!!

Caribousmom

It came out great, Marsha! Love it!

HawkFan

I mentioned this on your blog page too but I really like that pop of yellow. It will tie in really well with the blocks that have a bit of yellow. Love your fabric choices

True

LOVE your block...this is going to be an amazingly beautiful quilt!

Readerowl

Nicely done! Great fabric choices.

Terryt1955

I agree, love the pop of yellow as well as the softer blues. Beautiful! Miss Carolmarie please get this together quickly so we can all drool!

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, Ladies. I love this block. I used Jody's paper piecing and it was a piece o-cake. Thanks, Jodyrose . Carolmarie , I'm so glad you like it!

Dtscrapper

Marsha your block is awesome!

Quilterinmotion

Thank you, Dtscrapper !

Skynme

This block is really awesome!! The effects of the fabric are really amazing. Great job!!!

True

Love your tree...the background fabric is so perfect!

Caribousmom

Great colors for your tree!

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, ladies. Mymble hasn't commented yet. We all know it's all her this month. Mymble ? what do you think, girl?

HawkFan

Love your tree. It is so evocative of fall and the background fabric is perfect

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, HawkFan . I'm glad you agree about the background; seemed perfect to me.

Mymble

Quilterinmotion Hi Marsha- sorry to be checking in late- we had our Mid Year Homeschool review Friday so it was 2 days of collating, grading stray papers, etc...to get ready:)...Anyway...I adore it...what a fabulous fall tree and yes, the background is perfect....Thank you so so much!

Quilterinmotion

Mymble, Just glad to hear you like it! I hope you don't end up with too many fall trees; if you need more of other types, shout out and you know you will get them!

ArloDeanQuilts

I love your tree!! That fabric is awesome.

Caribousmom

Love your yellow block, Marsha!!! Wonderful!

True

Great yellows!! Love it

HawkFan

I love yellow Marsha and your block is beautiful. So bright and cheery! We're supposed to have wind chills down to about -20 tomorrow - you block makes me think of sunshine

Terryt1955

Hey partner in crime, I'm loving your lighter yellows and really like the star in white. It shows up nice and bright. Have you noticed that every block is just perfect?!

Quilterinmotion

Every block is so lovely, Terry. I like the star in white too, but it's not what Audrey asked for. I totally blew off using the low-volume, by accident, so I'm making her another one. I want to follow the request to the "T". Thanks, Terryt1955

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan , those temps sound so cold to me. Hope that yellow warms you up a bit; I'm making your second one this morning - with the asked-for low-volume star.

Terryt1955

I bet you anything that HawkFan is more than pleased with your block using the white star. White is after all the original low volume.

HawkFan

Marcia - sorry, I meant to post here too - the white star is just perfect - you don't need to do another one. I had actually thought I should post if you didn't have low volume (which I know you said you did have) to go ahead and use white or snow but I forgot. The white will just add to the variety of the stars which is what I'm looking for

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan , understood; but I did a second block anyway and held off mailing so I could mail both. I will put them in the mail tomorrow, Saturday.

HawkFan

They're both so pretty. Thanks again and thanks for making a second one!

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan , both went out this morning so hopefully you will have them soon. So happy you like them!

Quilt455

I love this yellow block. The flower fabric is just great, as it the dots.

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, Quilt455 . I borrowed some of the fabrics from my Sugar Cube QAL projects for these blocks.

Caribousmom

Love your yellow wonky star, Marsha!!! It's great!! Audrey's quilt is going to be so great!

Readerowl

pretty fussy cut flower, and wonderful luggage! Love your quatrefoil blocks

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, Readerowl . You dont think the luggage is too bold? I hope Wendy likes it but I gave her an option not to use it.

True

Great new blocks...really love blue fabrics!!

Caribousmom

I love bold! These are great, Marsha...thank you!

Quilterinmotion

Caribousmom , that's what counts. Glad you like them. Carolmarie , thank you. That flower was the inspiration (the background actually) for the tangerine fabric I picked out. I did so want to use that flower for the center.

ArloDeanQuilts

I love your blue fabric! This is a wonderful block.

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, ArloDeanQuilts . I agree; it's a fabulous block. Wendy will have a gorgeous quilt.

Readerowl

How fun! Both the X&+ blocks are wonderful. So glad you posted them - now I can look forward to seeing them in person. Batiks work well in this block don't they? And the blocks allows for mixing things up. Thank you!

Quilterinmotion

Readerowl , thank you. I'll put your packet in the mail tomorrow now that you say they are "wonderful". Guess I got the warms and the cools where you wanted them! Batiks do work well for this block.

Quilt455

I love the yellow dot fabric you used. Me and dots are good friends.

Quilterinmotion

Carolmarie , I agree. that "spool" fabric is cute and I love the lime and purples and oranges combined in the fabric. Thanks!
Quilt455 , I love the dots too. Being friends with dots is good, although my mother always told us girls every time she bought a polka dot dress, she got pregnant again. After 4-5 kids, you would think she'd stop buying/wearing dots!@!!

True

Awesome June blocks!

Skynme

Great fabrics for the churn dash blocks!!!

Terryt1955

The boys are going to love that racing flag yellow and black one for sure! I love the golden yellow. Great color!!!

ArloDeanQuilts

I love your blocks!, Your check block made me think of race cars, then I read your snippet for my month, great minds think alike! Also love the bright yellow, so fun!

Quilterinmotion

True , Skynme , thank you. Terryt1955 , I'm glad you agree about the racing flag yellow and black. It cried out to be made into that boy's churn dash block.

ArloDeanQuilts , I'm glad you love them! Yes, great minds do think alike. They went into the mail this morning (Tuesday).

True

I love the yellows! Great mix of fabrics and different yellows and your background fabrics are awesome.

Quilterinmotion

True , really? I didn't think there were enough choices of fabric and was hesitant to share the photo OR send it to Paula. Thanks for lifting my spirits about it. TB friends are the best!

Conniharns

Quilterinmotion I love your block. Very soothing feel to it!!

Quilterinmotion

Conniharns , thank you! You gals are making me feel much better about this block. I was so afraid it was too boring.

True

Quilterinmotion Honest I really like it... no clue what Paula will think but if it were coming to me I would be very happy:-) Glad our words helped you feel better...

Quilterinmotion

True , thank you! Really, thank you! I almost didn't post the photo as I was a little embarassed by it. Now I'm glad I did as you've made me feel so much better. Now to see what Paula thinks!

True

Quilterinmotion go look at it on group page where you can see it with other blocks...it looks perfect!

Caribousmom

It's very pretty, Marsha - and I agree with True , when you see it with the other blocks it looks great.

Quilterinmotion

Caribousmom and Carolmarie , thank you both. I did check it out on the Group Page and it will be fine in Paula's quilt. I was so focused on the fact that there were only the golds in the block, not a mixture, that I couldn't see the beauty in just golds. You've opened my eyes, friends.

True

Another awesome August block...love the fabric Marsha:-)

Terryt1955

Oh this makes me so happy!!!!! Thank you Marsha !

Quilterinmotion

Great, Terryt1955 ! It's in the mail. I love it too, True . Thank you!

True

Great block!!

Readerowl

I love the variety in these blocks! good job!

Skynme

Another great block I like the cute little pink heart fabric, it reminds me of the bleeding hearts I grew in Utah. Cute!!

Conniharns

Quilterinmotion thanks so much Marsha...can hardly wait for the mail these days!!

Quilterinmotion

True , Readerowl , Carolmarie , and Skynme , thank you. It's a fun block to make.

Conniharns , I know exactly how you feel. The mail is very exciting and takes on new proportion when you're the "Queen Diva".

Quilt455

I know Conni is jumping up and down over your block. It is great

Quilterinmotion

Quilt455 , thank you! I do hope she enjoys her lovely blocks. They will make an awesome quilt. I love the secondary blocks that occurs with this quilt.

True

Already told you on IG but will say it again awesome block!!!

Mymble

Beautiful fabric choices -wonderful!

HawkFan

Great October block - beautiful center fabric.

Conniharns

Your center block is very pretty...love that fabric.

Quilterinmotion

Thank you, Mymble , HawkFan , Carolmarie and Conniharns .

Terryt1955

Another beauty to add to Eric's collection!

Quilt455

Love this one

Quilterinmotion

Thank you Terryt1955 and Quilt455 . It was fun to make and I thought the center looked like the movement in the Northern Lights. Hoping Erica loves it that much when she gets her hands on it. It was mailed out yesterday, by the way, Skynme

Skynme

Quilterinmotion Its not here yet, but I do love it! All the blocks look amazing together, thank you!

True

Great November block!

Quilt455

This is a beautiful block. You did great with the fabrics you picked. Thank you so very much. It is a great addition to my other blocks.

Quilterinmotion

Quilt455 , thank you. I'm glad you like fabrics. It's such a tense time waiting for the word on whether the colors and fabrics are right! It went in the mail today so you should get it within the week I think.

Quilterinmotion

Carolmarie , thank you! I'm happy Cathie likes it; I agree it is a soft block.

True

Thank you Marsha they are awesome. And I appreciate the change:-). Cannot wait to see all these blocks togetehr and boy you are speedy!!

Skynme

These look awesome!! You did a great job!

Mymble

Beautiful blocks Marsha!

Quilterinmotion

Thanks, True , Skynme and Mymble , It's a fun block and happy to do it Mary.

True

Great March blocks!

HawkFan

love your March block

Quilterinmotion

Thank you True and HawkFan .

Mymble

Marsha it is gorgeous - love the colors- can't wait to see it in person

Terryt1955

Great bold colors. Nothing pastel about those!

Quilterinmotion

Mymble , I didn't get it mailed yet. This week for certain. Yes, Terryt1955 , they are bold colors but hopefully will play well with the other brights Margaret asked for. Carolmarie , don't worry; you've got several weeks yet. I have to do my projects in the open spots in my week as it's been crazy busy here in this 'retirement" community and I've been having some issues with drs., etc that have thrown me off as well but I'm back in the game.

Mymble

Quilterinmotion well no rush Marsha and hope you are feeling 100% soon!

Quilterinmotion

Mymble , it's in the mail as of about 10 minutes ago. I hope it arrives soon. Thanks for your well wishes; things are going better.

Quilt455

I love the orange fabric you used.

Mymble

Great Weathervane blocks Marsha!

baronreads

Love your bright Weathervanes!

HawkFan

Thanks so much Marsha - great bright blocks and I'm glad graphing helped you figure it out. Great idea.

Quilterinmotion

HawkFan - I'm glad you liked them Audrey. You have them in person soon as I'll get them to the PO in the morning. It was a fun block to make; not difficult, I just had trouble going back and forth between your post and the blog post to compare. Graphing always works for me! Visual learner.

HawkFan

I've often had that issue with TD blocks - trying to keep straight what colors go where and my requests were pretty specific. Thanks again!

Quilterinmotion

You're so welcome!

Caribousmom

Love the blocks you made for me, Marsha! Wonderful fabrics! Thank you!!!!

True

Awesome June blocks!

Mymble

Nice June blocks there Marsha - love those dark greys you used - great contrast against the blues!

Quilterinmotion

Caribousmom , so glad you like the fabrics. I must admit I had to go shopping as I had only a few grays in my stash. You will see them again in my July block--how convenient to shop for both our blocks at the same time! Thanks, True and Mymble , it was fun to do.
