Description

Last year I fell in love with Architextures by Caroline Friedlander so ordered and hoarded a half-yard bundle until just the right quilt project came along. Instead, Caroline Friedlander released her new fabric collection, Botanics. Another half-yard bundle and a flash of inspiration over Christmas. It's been just over a year since I finished my Farmer's Wife quilt and I've missed it, so I'm going to make a sampler quilt of any 6"blocks I like. Lots will come from the Farmer's Wife book, many will come from the book Sylvia's Bridal sampler which I'm using for another project at the same time, and some will come from random sources. I will keep going until one of three things happen: I get bored, I run out of fabric, or the quilt size becomes unmanageable!

11.01.2014: I've completed nine blocks: five solely from the Farmer's Wife book: Autumn Tints, Birds in the Air, Waterwheel, Puss in the Corner and Evening Star; two which have come solely from the Bridal Sampler book: 54-40 and Amethyst; and two which are in both books: Churn Dash/Wrench and Contrary Wife.

10.02.2014: 12 blocks completed over the last weekend! Bowtie, Cut Glass Dish, Friendship, Friendship Star, Linoleum, Jackknife, Cups and Saucers all from The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt, four from a small booklet which came with issue 4 of Love Patchwork and Quilting and Clay's Choice from Sylvia's Bridal Sampler.

31.05.2014: a bit slow going, but another 4 blocks completed in May

Amanda

I love this idea of just making a bunch of 6" blocks! And I love Caroline Friedlander's fabrics. They are really beautiful!

Terryt1955

Very pretty colors! What is the name of the lower left green pinwheel? And is it paper pieced?

I am a huge fan of Carolyn Friedlander's fabrics (I have been hoarding it) and am always interested in seeing what other people have done with it. You are giving me some great ideas here

True

Great blocks with awesome fabric...just love her collections!

Jenniesthreads

Terryt1955 It is called Amethyst and is in the book Sylvia's Bridal Sampler - and yes it is foundation pieced! But very straightforward.

True HawkFan Amanda Thank you very much! I just wanted a project where I could play with these beauties for as long as possible - a sampler quilt ticked that box!

Jenniesthreads - I know what you mean. I saw on your blog you also mentioned cutting in to them so you could have the scraps. I'm planning to break in to my stash soon for much the same reason

Caribousmom

How'd I miss this one? It is great - love your use of fabric in this one. Architextures is such a great line!

Mymble

Love your blocks so far- what a wonderful quilt this will be!

If you need more block ideas, Barbara Brackman's Blockbase, which is an electronic version ofher out of print Encyclopedia of Pieced Blocks, attempts to list all that were published up to 1970s. She lists all the names, dates they were printed, and has them organized so you can go from block to name as well as name to block. Blockbase works only on PCs. I love what you have done so far.

Clairealex Thanks for the tip - do you need EQ for it? I could be making these blocks for a long time :)

Clairealex

You don't need EQ, but I think you can use it with EQ if you have it. I think it is distributed by EQ.

Mymble

Nice to see this one popping up again- so lovely!
