Description

I am having a love affair with chevron's this spring.  I found some stripey fabric in the clearance bin at Joann's and thought it would make the perfect summer dress.  It's nice and lightweight, even though it's fully lined (the fabric is kinda shear).  I used a pattern to cut the pieces from, but that's about it.  I had to change some of the grainlines so that my pieces were cut on the bias; I also had to cut the fabric in single layers being sure to match the stripes across seamlines.  I have been taking my time on this one - making sure it turned out perfect.  I did have to pull the waist of the skirt in after I had cut the pieces, so on the top of the side seams the chevrons are about 1/4" off, but only for the first 6" or so.  I guess I can live with that small error.  All I have left is to hem the bottom and add bias tape made out of the stripey fabric to the armholes.

Looks wonderful....lining up all those stripes must have taken some patience! Love the colors too.

This is really amazing The stripes are so beautiful.

Wow, you did such a nice job matching the seams and the stripes.

Beth

thanks, ladies. Since I wanted the stripes to match along the back zipper and side seams I sewed those first, before the armholes.... now I am stuck trying to figure out how to close the armholes up. I am thinking of making bias tape out of the stripes and using that to close the arms, what do you think. Are their any other ways to finish armholes when you don't have open side/back seams?
