Description

I made this quilt as a wedding gift for my stepsister who is getting married this May, her shower is in a few weeks and that was my self imposed deadline.  I started this quilt on Jan 1 and finished Jan 19th, so it was pieced marathon style:) Lots of chain piecing and marathon pressing sessions to get this done quickly.  I modified the pattern a bit to make it larger.  The pattern makes a 60x70 quilt, but i wanted 80x80, so i did some math and came up with a 15x8 block arrangement instead of the 11x7 in the pattern to make it larger.  In the end, it finished 78x80 prewashing, so i'll take that as a quilt math win!

pattern is hopscotch by Camille Roskelly
fabrics used were 2 jelly rolls of Chicopee by Denyse Schmidt as well as 3 strips i cut from my own DS stash.  I purchased a coordinating solids FQ bundle from Pink Chalk Fabrics about a year ago, so i used those as the solids for my triangle centers and used one yard of each diamond color.  Bound in red-violet as well as one 20" strip left over from the FQ's for some visual interest to the binding.
Backing was made with some scraps from the front and the main backing print is from a  DS line from Joann's.  I picked it up on clearance this past summer thinking it would be perfect for the backing.  It did the trick!

Quilted by myself in a meandering fmq stitch through the triangles but i tried to have fun and play in the "stars" a bit to highlight the secondary pattern they create throughout the quilt.

Tried a new to me technique for basting--last year i commented how miserable it was to baste the king sized quilt i had made and a great threadbias commenter told me to you tube "table basting."  a few moments on you tube, a 6 pack of large binding clips later and pulling out my cutting table and i was sold!  I may never baste on the floor again!  Life changing!

This is an amazingly gorgeous quilt and what a gift. And wow you were fast! I too only baste using a table and love it...so agree it is life changing!!

Aprilc

True thanks for your kind words:)

Beautiful, luscious, amazing... Great job. Love the pattern and fabric. I'll have to try the table basting.

Readerowl

Pinned this. All the other hopscotch quilts I've seen have white in the center and usually part of the star points...& I like them, but I love the solid colors in yours.

HawkFan

wow this is so beautiful! What a lovely gift

Caribousmom

This is stunning - totally love it.

Readerowl thanks! Yes-table basting rocks! And I agree--most I've seen do use the same color in the centers as the stars so that's why I tried this alternate coloration. I was happy with the result:)

It's beautiful ... I guess I would love to try table basting too - but I have no idea what table to use ... well I don't have a table taht could be used so for me it will be a few more years on my knees on the floor.

So pretty! I love the colors.

Aprilc

sew_what thanks! I think that is what makes the Chicopee line work so great! There's only a handful of prints I would usually buy in this line, but I love all the colors together!
