Description

This is an improve quilt that started with a fish. The square in the middle was a little free sample that I received in a fabric package...don't you just love those. I keep them in a bag and usually make zipper pouches out of them. This time, the Koi just seemed like the start of a quilt. I had all the other fabrics- from "Tsuru" and "Koi" and the basketweave...and I just started winging it. It was Thanksgiving weekend and a great way to relax- just sort of let the pieces fall together as they seemed to fit.

I just now have gotten back to it and have started quilting. I stitched in the ditch around everything, and now I'm going back and doing different patterns in each section.  This is fun.

April 19, 2014  Finis!  I did a different quilting in each section...really fun. The back is navy voile with a strip of leftover fabric down the center.  Out of the wash ...all lovely and crinkly.   I plan to just carry this around with me for a while...like Linus. Okay, well maybe not, but I'd like to:)

This is awesome and I am most impressed with your ability to just go with the flow. Great fabrics!

Beautiful fabrics. I never would have thought to put them together and they are gorgeous!

True Thanks Mary- this really is a fun little project- I sort of just told myself whatever happens is right...no wrong moves...and went for it. I am trying to actually USE the fabrics I fall in love with...reminding myself they are meant to be sewn into something...not just sit there waiting for me to visit them every once in a while...so this was a small attempt to put that in practice.

QCHandmade Thanks ! if I had stopped to think about it too much I doubt I would have either, but I was in a "go for it mood" and so I did.

This has such a wonderful Asian organic vibe

There is an art to mixing prints, and you nailed it!

Mymble

HawkFan Thanks Audrey...the fabrics are so lovely they made that part easy:)

Clairealex Thank you so much- I think I am learning that some of the art has to do with not over thinking it:)...trusting myself more.

True Thanks Mary...I really liked quilting it this way and hope to do the same with a bigger one now that I have a feel for it.

Great quilt! I am a fabric remnant junkie - so I love what you have done here. Congratulations!

Fun quilt - love that little fish who started it all off! My limited experience with improv has been enjoyable - I should really do more of it!
