Description

Top assembled. Next up, piece a backing.

It's now a giant 9-patch on my design wall, waiting to be sewn together in the final step.

Sewing the blocks together--mimicking the shape of the block for the layout.

I made these blocks and have had them floating around for awhile now. Now that I have a design wall, thought I better put it to good use!

I used Denyse Schmidt's favorite quilting pattern--figure 8! I love it!

The blocks are wonderful- are you planning to introduce some new ones as well? Blue and white is such a lovely combo- can't go wrong with that at all!

It looks great so afar...can't wait to see more.

Aizome

Mymble I have six more blocks on hand, but I'm going with the layout I have, imitating the layout of the block.

Aizome

CLS17 Thanks! Sidelined by some quilting and shopping...

Clairealex

The way you related the layout to the block is very effective! (I had liked the layout before I read your explanation; now I like it better.)

Aizome

Clairealex Thanks, Claire! Trying to get away from "the same old same old", if you know what I mean!

Clairealex

Aizome I sure do. BTW I visited Japan about 7-10 years ago when my daughter lived in Akashina. We couldn't schedule it for the big quilt show though.

Aizome

Clairealex Is that in Nagano? Hope you found some fiber goodness and saw some beautiful scenery, not to mention the wonderful Japanese hospitality! Was your daughter a JET by any chance? japan

Clairealex

Aizome Yes, Nagano. Yes JET, but also studying flute at the Suzuki Institute in Matsumoto. We covered a lot of territory, saw cherry blossoms, Koyasu, Nara, much more.

Beautiful layout! You really have a talent for layouts with your quilts. You could make matching pillows with the extra blocks.

Aizome

cally68 Thanks, Cally! I pieced the extra blocks together, along with a label, to make a strip across the back. Great idea about the pillows. I'll keep that in mind for next time.

The dark gray really sets off the blocks and I also love how your mimicked the block design in the layout. Very creative.

True

Very cool layout and lovely quilt in the making!

Aizome

HawkFan True Thank you! Trying to not do the "same old, same old", if you know what I mean! The gray was a bolt I had on hand. I used every bit of it, except three 1" strips!?!

Your layout designs are so creative. I'm going to remember your ideas and try to think outside the box for my future quilts!

Mymble

Love the grey...and love the idea behind your layout - it is really great!

HawkFan Mymble Thanks! I've discovered that it helps to have a design wall to work on. boom

Mymble

Aizome You bet- yours looks great! Someday I hope to get the space for one -it will happen:))

Aizome

Don't know where mine is going to be stored yet! It's currently leaning against the wall in front of the dining room sideboard. As long as it's in use, that's where it is staying.

I just made my own design wall and it's been very helpful so far. It makes such a difference but you still have to have the creativity that you do to put it to such good use Aizome !
