Description

February 1, 2014: Decided today to try my first ever Dresden block (thank you for inspiring me, Mary +True ). This is a pattern from Riley Blake Designs using chevrons and dots - I decided not to use the templates, but instead used the EZ Dresden Ruler (which made slightly narrower Dresden plates) and my new Olfa round rotary cutter to make the circles. Don't look too closely at my applique! I'm still learning, but overall, I am happy with how this block turned out! The blocks for this quilt will be in a rainbow of colors using chevron fabric coordinated with solids.

True

Applause from Maine!!! This is awesome and will be such a fun quilt...love that you took the plunge. And it does get easier...

True Well, this one was a bit time consuming and I did mess up a couple of times before getting the hang of things. It is not perfect, but I can see where after awhile things come together faster and with more accuracy. I'm looking forward to working on this one and watching it unfold...since it is for me, I figure this will be my learning quilt :)

cally68 Thanks, Valerie! They are fun once you get going with them. I was excited to actually get a block done today :)

HawkFan

Beautiful and your fabrics are a perfect combination!

Caribousmom

HawkFan Thank you, Audrey!

True

Caribousmom they are definitely not a quick block but they look so awesome, and for some reason they seem magical to me...just how they are made and that in the end it all works!! It takes very little to entertain me;-)

Caribousmom

True I agree re: magical. It was exciting when I got to the end of the round and it actually worked! LOL! I love that they are a traditional block which you can make modern looking. I have a feeling I will become addicted to these once i learn all the little tricks :)

Terryt1955

Wow, I love how you used the chevron fabric for every other blade. Ingenious! Now will the other blocks be using the same chevron fabric and you'll just be changing up the solids and center? Can't wait to see this unfold. Which for you means probably by next week.

Skynme

I love the vibrant colors. Really beautiful!

Caribousmom

Terryt1955 Every block will use a different color of chevron and coordinating solid...the centers and background will also change.

Skynme Thank you!

Terryt1955

Ohhh, very pretty indeed. Hurry up and crank out some more!

Caribousmom

Terryt1955 LOL - there will be no cranking these out. They are very time consuming...but I promise there will be more :)

Terryt1955

Well at least take a picture of your chevron fabrics. This is going to be spectacular!

Whatthebobbin

So fun and bright!

Mymble

Oh I knew you'd get the Dresden with no problem...and then do even better than that and absolutely nail it- which of course you did:)---so great and the rainbow dresdens will be wonderful...and yes, they are about as addicting as hexies- and so fun!

Caribousmom

Terryt1955 I promise to get a photo of the fabric soon :)

Carolmarie Thanks! I was excited to try these...and love the idea of such a traditional block being made with modern fabrics :)

Whatthebobbin Thank you!

Mymble Aw, thanks, Margaret! I'm having fun!
