Delight in the Little Things by Kittywilkin
Delight in the little things
I am a part of a group called 12x12 Art Quilts on Facebook, and every month they post a word. The idea is to create a 12x12" art quilt as your interpretation of the word, or inspired by the word. January's word was "delight" and being my first month in the group, I decided to do a 12x12 art quilt out of 1" squares (1.5" before being sewn together). I called it "Delight in the Little Things" (like 1" squares, tiny seeds blowing in the breeze, and sunbursts on a hot day). It was REALLY fun to make, and I am extremely proud of how well I matched seams! I also created the 4" paper pieced four-pointed star (my first self-designed paper piecing) to fit in my creation, and appliqued on the dandelion seed. I used FMQ for the wind swirls, and hand quilted with metallic thread around the star and along the light side of the dandelion seed. I played with the binding so that it wasn't a solid frame for the quilt, and I'm really happy with it. I can't wait to do another!
