Description

I found a picture of this design on Pinterest shortly after discovering I was expecting, and it set the theme for the nursery--forest friends. I used the image as a reference to draw my own design, with help from my husband, who can draw cartoon animals much better than I can. ;-)

I used only a handful of embroidery stitches. For filling in the animals, I used stem stitch, chain stitch (bird), and satin stitch (rabbit and parts of others). I filled the tree with chain stitch in dark brown and a rusty orange-brown in stem stitch. The leaves are done in the lazy daisy stitch. The flowers are all completely made up except for the red one, which is a french knot with a stem.

I really like how this turned out. I should have taken better pictures before framing it, although that wouldn't guarantee blur-less photos either (I'm not a very good photographer!). I enjoyed the stitching; it's the most detailed and tiny embroidery work I've ever done. I did get a little frustrated with the color selection I had on hand... but that will correct itself in time, I am sure. I also felt a little lost as to what stitches to use. I wanted to use a variety, but ended up using a few basics I already know. I would like to focus my next embroidery piece on learning lots of new stitches. :-)

Adorable-you did such a lovely job with this!... and there are so many great fabrics out right now that would coordinate with this for your nursery...all those little woodland animals seem to inspire so many fabric lines. Love it- and congratulations on your little one on its way!

How sweet! It's amazing what you can do with only basic stitches. I'd have to say either the fox or the hedgehog is my favorite.
