Description

I signed up for the Sew My Stash Challenge on www.thesewingloft.com, and received my kit - it was in the mail we picked up after a short trip to visit my Dad in a retirement center.  I had planned to make a walker bag for Dad (green/brown/navy fabrics) and decided to experiment with the challange kit as an extra bag for a gift.  Dad has a neighbor who might love a bag!  Bags are useful for carrying mail and fruit up from the first floor dining room and mailroom to his third floor apartment.
I used interfacing on the large front and back pieces, substituted velcro for the buttons and buttonholes, and quilted a panel for the front pockets.  Back pockets were omitted.  Lining, tabs and fabrics for the pockets are solids from stash.

Dad's 'Birdie Walker Bag' is finished - two pockets, no quilting, lined in a light tan quilter's linen.

What a great idea and a beautiful bag.

This is such a great "walker" bag! And with all the purple he's going to have to fight the women off. I need to make one for my mom. Love that you used velcro to make it easier to take on and off for those older hands.

Love the fabric!!! What a great bag!!

Readerowl

Skynme I'm loving the fabric too. I wouldn't have picked the rich Loulouthi print on my own, but it came in the kit, and I could see lots of possibilities for it. I just happened to have solids and scraps in my stash that went with it.

Terryt1955 You know the ratio of men to women in retirement communities like his means he has lots of friends who are women!

Love your latest bag...I was just telling someone at work about you making these and how lovely they are...

Readerowl

True Thanks. I told Dad about them on the phone last night and he seemed pleased - especially about having an extra to give away.
