Description

March 2014 is my month as Queen for Newbee Hive #5, and I have chosen the Inverted Star Block.

I am using the following free tutorial from Craftsy by Common Threads:  http://www.craftsy.com/pattern/quilting/other/inverted-star-tutorial/16458 If you have trouble getting to the tutorial please let me know and I can email it to you. The block will finish at 12" (12.5" unfinished). Your blocks should end up at 12.5"

Please do not trim your finished blocks.

Notes: I did not like the way the HST's were made in this tutorial so I made my starting squares 3" x 3" as stated in the tutorial and then made my HST's like this:  http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/2010/01/trimming-hst.html and then trimmed them to 2.5" x 2.5".

Colors: My color inspiration is the Aviary 2- Saffron color way, Brown, Orange, Aqua, Cream and Light Tan. I also added another picture for color inspiration that I loved. (I know this one says the dark brown is red, but please no red). I would like the background to be Kona Snow if possible, if you do not have this on hand please try to use a creamy white or white.

Siggy block: You will need to cut 2- 3"x 3" Background (Kona Snow, creamy white or white) squares and 2- 3"x 3" Colored (prints) squares. Make HST's with these (one background with one colored square) you should end up with 4 HST's. Trim them to 2.5" x 2.5". Sew them together in a 4 patch with the background parts on the inside of the 4 patch (like the brown and cream squares in the block) as shown in my picture and then sign and send with your block.

If you have any questions please ask and I will try my best to answer them as best I can.

I can not wait to see these stars come to life! Happy Sewing!

05/02/14 Top finished with the blocks I received except for one which will go on the back. Now to get this backed and quilted so I can send it off for a charity drive that is coming up.

I love using browns and tans - I think they are way under rated. Thanks for picking such a fun block for March~!

Gorgeous! I can't wait to dive in!

PurpleIris

Color question: Should the aqua be more of a sky blue, or have a little green in it?

ArloDeanQuilts

PurpleIris , a little green in the aqua. Hope that helps.

Missriain

I LOVE this block. Can't wait to make one for you!

ArloDeanQuilts

PurpleIris , as I thought about it more, please use what you have on hand. I am not picky. :) I just want everyone to have fun and enjoy this block!

PurpleIris

ArloDeanQuilts I have both sky-blue and a more greeny-blue on hand -- that's why I asked :)

beadqueene

so more Teal than Aqua then :)

ArloDeanQuilts

Sure that's fine.
