Love it...great fabrics...and that is yucky about jelly roll! I have only used one a few times but have luckily not had an issue (both mine were Moda). I have had issues with other precuts being off though but so far larger than should be so does not negatively impact project. Isn't this fun to make?! And it is a perfect size to try FMQing on. This makes me want to do another one of these as a wall quilt.
BTW people at work are going to be so jealous of your awesome wall art.
Thanks True ! I really want to make this again but next time I'll try Moda's jelly rolls. I think both of the jelly rolls I had problems with were from Windham. Hmmm, maybe a pattern happening here....
Thanks for introducing me to this great pattern!!
This is a GREAT wallhanging! I want to make several for my cube at work and rotate them.
Msminnesota Me too! That is the part about making several and rotating them.Kind of like those banners people have in their front yards marking the various holidays....
I've never had problems with Moda precuts but I have had larger cuts(fat quarters) being cut really wonky with some other brands. Sorry for your frustration but this turned out really pretty.
I love how bright and yes, fresh, this is! Perfect fabrics for this square. How frustrating about the strip sizing. I have several jelly rolls but haven't used them much yet.
HawkFan Thanks! I've had this jelly roll for awhile. In fact I have a while bunch that I've yet to use. I just hope they don't give me as much grief. Good luck on yours!!
This is great, Terry!!! Love it!
I've had a couple of layercakes and charms where a couple of the squares are only half a square, which you don't notice because they're in the middle. I find my biggest issue with jellyrolls is knowing where to have the edge because of the pinked edges -- is it it the tip of the zag or the bottom of the zig?!
I think your block came out great though! I can't see any lost points from your photo.
Joke Yes those pinked edges are a pain! But with mine even using the tippy tip of the pinked edge it still wasn't a full 2 1/2" strip. Grrr! My very first quilt I used Bali strips from Hoffman and they didn't have the pinked edges. Seems the batiks are straight and everyone else has pinked edges? Anyway, enough complaining about jelly rolls. Thanks!
Terry, this is so nice. Love the colors and design. It's beautiful....I loved True's also.. Great pattern. How big is this block?
Conniharns Thanks! It's a 27" block. I haven't decided if I'm going to add another solid border to make it a tad larger or just leave as is. But you're right, it's a great pattern. I'll show you what I sketched on Saturday.
Carolmarie Thanks! I really like the colors also. Check to see who made your jelly roll and that will let you know if you're going to have any problems. It also matters what pattern you're going to use it for.
I love this - the colors are awesome. and the pattern is just great too
Carolmarie Just checked out Spring House and that coral is beautiful! Too bad Helen's Garden turned out to be brown and not black. I hate that when you get fabric ordered on line and it turns out way different than you had envisioned. And I think you'll be fine with Moda. That's all I'm ever going with when ordering jelly rolls in the future.
Gorgeous block and will look fantastic on a wall. Love the chat about jelly rolls. I am very keen to use one but as yet haven't decided on a pattern.
Capetowngirl , Kim Brackett has published I think 3 books using jelly rolls. My vote is still out as for which one is the best but I'm leaning towards the first one, "Scrap Basket Surprises". I checked it out at the library and found lots of inspiration!
I'm glad you posted the problems you had with the jelly rolls. There was one I was thinking about buying and then saw it was a Windham and decided not to risk it. I don't need any more jelly rolls anyway!
Was it by any chance the Citrus one on sale at Missouri Star Quilt Company? I got so excited when I first saw it and then saw it was by Windham and passed it up.
Yes that was the one! I did exactly what you did
HawkFan I bought a FQ bundle of the Citrus and love it so I was so excited to see it offered up as a jelly roll. I think Windham just needs to revisit their laser settings on their jelly roll maker! The yardage is wonderful!
Great just what I need - another line to add to my fabric wish list. I'm trying to be good but it's so hard!
So pretty- what a lovely wall hanging! Haven't used a ton of jelly rolls, but they have been Moda with no problems...would it be worth it just to drop Windham a line...if you had the time...a "just thought you might like to hear about my experiences with your jelly rolls"...sort of note :)...my feeling is, these things are manufactured en masse, and retailers may not hear back about them, and the company may not really know all the problems... they might send you a coupon and apology but at the very least it could help the company to address the issue.
Mymble Oh and thanks for liking the wall hanging. Can't wait to finish it so I can light up my wall at work. I love passing by it every morning on my way out the door.
Love the colors in this star block ~ that would make me smile if I had it on my wall, too! I think I may have to make myself something to hang up :)
