Description

In January 2014 I began my participation in the 2014 Paper Piecing QAL over at  Quilt Art Designs blog.

Arthttp://quiltartdesigns.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_11.html

Each month, Janeen offers one of her designs for a block or two that will all be put together to creat a quilt called "In the Garden".  For the current month, the block is free.  Once a new block is offered on the first of each month, the past designs are still available through Craftsy for $3.00 each.  By the way, Janeen is a TB member!

These are complex blocks for the most part but if you are an experienced paper-piecer, I'm sure you'll enjoy working on them.

January blocks - "Trees"

I made the first of the two "Trees" blocks with a green background then realized a sky background would probably work better.  I plan to re-do the first of the blocks later.

February blocks - "Hummingbird" and "Hibiscus"

Being too busy in February, I ended up purchasing the designs at the Craftsy shop in March so I could catch up with the quilt-along.   All caught up; hummingbird and hibiscus were not as difficult as the March birdhouse.

March - "Birdhouse"

Two birdhouses were offered, one simpler, one more complex.  I chose to do the one for experienced paper-pieces.  There were a LOT of pieces to this one!

April - "Sunflowers"

Again with a lot of pieces and three shades of yellow-gold, I have a completed block.  These Quilt Art Designs are challenging but they are so beautiful to watch go together.

May - "Stone Fountain"

This block was more difficult for me to complete.  I think it was all the greys as I kept losing sight of where I was headed with all those 20-something sections.   I have to say this one wasn't as much fun for me to put together as the others.  It's done, only a day or two "late" for May.

Skynme , True , Aizome , thank you so much. They do have lots of pieces and they are complex, but what great realism they have because of these features. HawkFan , thanks for the Title! Sewnsew , and Gardencrafter, thanks so much. Paper piecing is fun and finishing one feels like such an accomplishment!

Stlcaverly

Love them! Just have done a couple paper pieces blocks but really enjoy using small pieces of fabric and no real measuring! May have to check these patterns out. Thanks for the info!

sew_what

How pretty! You're doing a fantastic job. They brought a smile to my face.

Quilterinmotion

Stlcaverly , they are challenging but if you take it slow, they all "fall into place". Have fun and you're welcome!
sew_what , thank you! Hope they bring Spring a little closer for everyone.

True

Terryt1955

Quilterinmotion

Terryt1955 , thank you! I'm honored to receive the title! LOL
True , QCHandmade , thank you! It's the design really. Janeen is an amazing designer and her designs are well crafted. I so enjoy doing these paper pieced works; they come out so fabulous - like "painting by number" art.

Clairealex

Great blocks. Love the humming bird.

Quilterinmotion

Thank you, Clairealex . I really enjoy making these.

True

I love the sunflower! What a great block.

Aizome

Wow! --on the sunflower!!! sunflower

Quilterinmotion

True , Aizome , thank you! I love the sunflower too. It's almost real, I think. Janeen does a fabulous job designing; all I do is "follow the numbers". Thanks, though, and I'll take all the fine comments you want to send my way. blush

Skynme

You did a great job on the stone block, I don't think I would have even attempted it.

Quilterinmotion

Skynme . Thank you! I hate to give up once I start, though I did consider it once or twice in the process of this block. So much easier when there's a variety of colors!

Mymble

Wow- Stone Fountain is simply amazing!

Quilterinmotion

Mymble , thank you so much.
