Description

I have long admired Dresdens. In fact years ago it's what attracted me to quilting in the first place. One would think I would have tried one long before this but alas it took the Pillow Pop group to get my act together and try it. I'm proud to say that although it takes a little time to make (mind you I haven't even finished yet) it's not nearly  as hard as I thought it would be. It just takes time and patience. I can't imagine making a whole quilt out of these lovelies but man would it be beautiful for a Christmas quilt!

I saw 2 FQ's at my LQS and that's what got me picking out the rest.A lot of the prints are from Kate Spain's Sunnyside or perhaps Terrain. I tend to just pick out random bolts and not pay attention to the designer. I probably should have gone with a royal blue instead of the navy because now it's looking more like black. Oh well, an excuse to make another one.

My biggest challenge was getting a nice round circle for the center. Turns out my rotary cutter doesn't fit inside the grooves of the EZ Circle Template by Darlene Zimmerman. Next time I'm going to trace it with a pencil and use my scissors.

5/25/14 Finished Quilting the top using an echo approach. I'm not able to just eyeball it so I marked the lines with my trusty FiXion pen by Pilot which irons out once you're done. These pens at at Office Max/Office Depot and probably cheaper than buying from your LQS.

Oh I love this and the fabric!!!! And dresdens take time but are addicting. I have learned little things along the way that help me out. Cannot wait to see this pillow done.

True

OMG just hit me how much orange you are using!!!!!

Skynme

Love the sunny side prints, and they really pop with that orange. Great job on this!!!

Readerowl

I love your dresden! After skipping April and May pillows, I guess I'll have to make both the June projects. Have you decided on the background? Looking for votes? I like the orange dot unless you have some hand stitching planned for the outside of the dresden.

Terryt1955

Readerowl I loved the orange too but I decided on the white because I wanted to try that echo quilting shown in the book. It would have gotten lost on the orange, like you said.

Terryt1955

Thanks Skynme . The orange does kind of take over the Sunnyside but it's all good.

True , I know can you get over me using orange?! What has Caribousmom done to me!

Carolmarie , I'll have to check out your boards since we probably have the same ones pinned. Seems if I'm not sewing I'm pinnng!

Caribousmom

Love, love, love!!! And SO happy I have turned you on to orange...isn't it fun!??!?

True

What a great job quilting this you have done! And love the fabric for the back.

Terryt1955

Terryt1955

Drnic2c Thanks! Now on to making the pieced back....

Mymble

I love your Dresden - love the fabrics and your quilting is super- just great all around!

Terryt1955

Mymble Thanks! I'm rather pleased with this one too! reminds me of all those lovely Dresdens you made awhile back! I was so envious of them.

Mymble

Terryt1955 LOL- and now Grasshopper, you have become a Dresden master and it is I who bows to your skills!

Terryt1955

Mymble Hahaha not quite! I have to make at least 4 more to "master" it !

Skynme

Absolutely gorgeous!

sew_what

Nice fabric! The quilting is great.

Gardencrafter

What striking pillow! And your quilting is so perfect, I need to get one of those pens!

Terryt1955

Carolmarie sew_what Gardencrafter Skynme Thansk ladies!! And the pen is a life saver for those who can't eyeball or "see" the quilting design in their head.

Terryt1955

Carolmarie , I'm so bad about the posts that if a person doesn't write anything down on her project page I won't leave a comment!

But yes, get the pen!! I can't live without mine and they last a long time.

Quilt455

Love it and you are also way a head of the game. I have also never done a "plate" but think I am going to try this pillow. I have your fabrics and the way you quilted it. Thanks for the tip regarding the pen, you just made my life easier. The back fabric is perfect!!!

HawkFan

Sheesh - I go away for a mere 3 weeks and you become a dresden master-in-training! I'm glad I saved at least some of the TB activity updates so I can catch up on beautiful projects like this one that I missed.

Terryt1955

HawkFan Hahaha, see what happens in 3 weeks? We missed you! Now all we need is for Caribousmom to return and all will be right with the universe. True and Dtscrapper , you must give her back!

True

Terryt1955 LOL I have so missed people so glad +hawkfab is back!!

HawkFan

I even had my iPad with me (congrats on becoming a new owner of one BTW) but connectivity was sometimes an issue and pictures weren't loading very well so I gave up trying to keep up. I missed seeing all the wonderful projects!
