Description

15 June 2015
I haven't done much on this for ages but today I took a break from writing and pieced the 8th Dresden plate. I've so far only stitched one to the backing fabric, and pinned another.  I laid the plates out on a white sheet on the bed to get an idea of what it might look like eventually. I still haven't quite decided what to do for the centre plate - whether to use all four colour groups in quarters, or mix them up.  also haven't decided about sashing or borders. Maybe I should put a little hexagon flower in the corners of the centre blocks :)

I finally started this project last week - I'm piecing the plates on my new-to-me 1925 Singer 66K treadle sewing machine. She only needed a little oil and she's running beautifully - a joy to sew on! I've completed 5 of the 9 plates, and plan to hand-quilt them as quilt-as-you-go blocks while I'm travelling in the next few weeks.

I love the look of Dresden plate quilts. These fabrics are very pretty together, and will probably become my first Dresden quilt. (I need to add an additional purple one - I'm sure I'll have something suitable in my stash!)

Your Dresdens will be lovely, but your Singer 66 (right) Lotus is absolutely gorgeous. I have a Red-head (or Redeye) 66 in a very similar cabinet, but mine's a little older (1911). Nice to see another Treadler here! TreadleOn!

Wow to both the machine and the Dresden! So cool to sew on such a great, old machine:-)
