Description

Wow this is more exciting than I even thought (and a little nerve racking) to be Queen!  The pressure!!!  just kidding on the pressure part!

Well I picked the Origami Star as my block.  It looks really complicated but is super fast to put together and pretty easy.  The tutorial is found here:

http://sukiedontyaknow.com/2014/03/12-5-origami-star-tutorial/

The colors I would like are brown, aqua (ish) and orange, with snow background.  If you don't have snow, white should be fine.

Some info as I went through the tutorial:
  • a scant 1/4 is a must to get the 6.5" little blocks.  This is just slightly less than a 1/4 and if you would rather just add a 1/16th or 1/8th and trim down that would probably work also.
  • pressing seams open for sure.  I am usually a press to one side even if it says press open, but there are wonky seams and open is really helpful here.
  • squaring up as you go.  I squared up after the 3 strips, and after sewing the triangles on.  At the end please do  not square to 12.5 I will do that when I get them all.
  • also if you wouldn't mind I would love the triangle scraps after cutting the corners.  I will try to use them in the top, but for sure the back of the quilt.  If you want to sign a piece and where your from that would be super great also.  This is of course not required.
  • you can have whatever color you want be the center.  Mine is brown but I would love it mixed so just pick your favorite.
  • If you have any questions at all please ask.

Capetowngirl Thanks I searched and goggled for something that "spoke" to me so to speak. I am glad to have found it and then for it to be a pretty easy one! I am so excited to get blocks lol!

Sdd1997

Aizome thank you!

I've been working on the block and it is, unfortunately, not coming together. Sewing the scant 1/4" seems to be my problem. Do you have any suggestions?
Frustrated Lynn

Sdd1997

lynnst I am so sorry! I have tape on my machine where I can line my fabric up and know it is scant 1/4 in. Have you tried that? I have a 1/4 problem myself and even have the 1/4 foot but I tend to be pushy with my fabric so I have to move the needle also. I also have to sew pretty slow when it is a block like this that is super exact with measurements. I hate that you are frustrated :(!

lynnst

Thanks, I'm starting over! If at first.......

Sdd1997

lynnst I was wondering if it was going any better for you. If not I can maybe ask on the hive thread and see if anyone has better suggestions for you. Sorry I am not much help :(

lynnst

Thanks, I did the tape help and went really SLOW !
That seemed to work!

lynnst I am glad it is going better!
